Celebrate International Women's Day with us as we interview inspiring women from all walks of life.

I have been a long time follower of Leah's and absolutely love the content she shares with her community on motherhood, business, fashion and just her realness on the gram. Leah shares such a mix of beautiful imagery but without the fakeness that can sometimes follow such a beautiful account.

While Leah juggles being a mum and all the, dare I say it, shit that comes along with it, she also is a content creator for brands as well as just having started her own business, Sunday Creative. How she fits this all in we will never know, but if you need a dose of inspiration to start your own business this is the interview for you.

Leah is an absolute force and we loved interviewing her for International Womens Day.

Tell us a bit about you? Where are you from? Who’s in your family?

Hey, I’m Leah – small biz owner, content creator, professional snack maker and mum of 3 little ones. I live in the inner west of Sydney with my husband Colin and kiddos Eva (7), August (4) and Rosie (1).

......................................................................................................................................

What is your background and how did you get to where you are today?

I started out my career working in the music industry… think door girl duties at loud, stinky pubs. Two years later I found myself working on some of the biggest music tours in the country like ACDC. After completing my studies in Business Marketing, I did a little sidestep into Television Marketing and worked for one of the main television stations for 6 years. Fast forward to my first baby being born, I began sharing on Instagram and as my audience grew I had brands approaching me to work with them. Three years ago I quit my marketing job and turned this side hustle, into a my full time gig!

Can you tell us a little about your business Sunday Creative, how it started and the philosophy behind the business?

Sunday Creative is my second little business baby! I launched her 6 months ago to provide small business owners a place to get all the info they need to turn their side hustle into a flourishing business. I’ve really pulled together all my experience working as an influencer and content creator and paired it with my years working in marketing. The Step Up is an online course that gives you everything you need to grow your biz in the online space from branding, influencer marketing, content creation, Instagram, reels and online marketing. I’ve also included a section on mindset and lifestyle too and I share my own personal experiences being a working mum. I created The Step Up course as I noticed I was so frequently asked questions from small biz mama’s about how to work with influencers or how to create a memorable brand and I wanted to launch something that gave them EVERYTHING they needed in the one place.

How has your career changed since becoming a mum of three?

Life has become a whole lot more hectic, ha!  But I think I’ve also learnt to stop sweating the small stuff so much. Time is so limited, so I just don’t have that luxury anymore to waste it with self-doubt or procrastination. I’ve also become better at just pushing myself outside my comfort zone.

......................................................................................................................................

What is do you find the hardest part about motherhood/ motherhood in business?

The juggle… the push and the pull. It’s so hard. The thing I find the most frustrating is the slow, stop, start nature in which you often have to work. I have so many creative ideas and things I’d like to, but at the moment, they just can’t happen… and I find that so frustrating. But I try to remind myself that I am right here in the thick of parenting and it won’t always be this way.

If you could offer new mamas one piece of advice it would be...?

Listen to your gut. Block out the noise and trust your own instincts. Mama’s always know best. And that it’s okay if you find you love being a mum one day and hate it the next! It’s a rollercoaster.

......................................................................................................................................

What inspires you?

Ohhh so many things… I feel like I am constantly inspired and dreaming up new things to create… Just the limited time thing holds me back. I’m inspired by other online creators, my incredible online community, fashion, getting outside in nature and my kids too.

......................................................................................................................................

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a small business and how could Sunday Creative help?

Work out what makes your business different and run with it. So, what is it that sets you apart from your competitors? Weave that into your brand messaging. People want different! Then start with the basics – branding, social, and an amazing website. My online course basically holds your hand through all of this!

What are four things you can’t live without?

My phone (terrible, I know!), the ocean, my kids and music.

What’s on your manifest board?

An overseas holiday that involves a nanny! Ha, literally. After having our third baby in the middle of the 5-month Sydney lockdown and the hurdles we’ve jumped in the last two years we are all in need of a holiday… and one that involves us actually having a rest too… hence the nanny! Hopefully we’ll get this holiday in May!
